WASTE MANAGEMENT

STARTING JANUARY 1, 2024

Starting January 1, 2024, the Township will see changes to its trash & recycling programs as part of the South Hills Area Council of Governments (SHACOG) joint contract that covers nineteen Municipalities. Here are the important changes to keep in mind:

SOLID WASTE

All solid waste MUST be contained in a trash bag(s) and MUST ONLY be within a Township issued solid waste tote and must be contained in trash bags(s). NO SOLID WASTE shall be placed curbside that is not in a tote. The tote lid must be able to close. Any trash outside or on top of the tote WILL NOT BE PICKED UP BULK ITEMS

Bulk items can no longer be placed curbside every week, Only once a month a household will be permitted to place bulk items curbside. Only TWO bulk items will be permitted. This MUST be a scheduled pick up with Waste Management

(1-800-866-4460 or wm.com). Failure to schedule bulk items will result in the items not being collected

TOTES

Only one (1) tote per household is permitted. If a household wishes to have two totes, the annual cost for a second tote will be $110.00 in 2024, $117.70 in 2025, $125.94 in 2026, $137.76 in 2027 and $144.19 in 2028. A second tote and/or container will not be picked up without first making arrangements with Waste Management.

RECYCLING

All recycling MUST ONLY be within the Township issued tote. No recycling shall be placed curbside and/or on top of the tote. Recycling (including boxes, cardboard, etc.) that is not in a tote will not be picked up. As with solid waste, a second tote can be provided at the same annual cost as a second solid waste tote.

RECYCLING MATERIALS

GLASS IS BACK. Starting in 2024, glass will be accepted as part of your recycling. All glass containers will be accepted with the exception of glass panes, ceramics, windows and/or mirrors.

PICK UP SCHEDULE

As in past years, household trash and recycling will be picked up on the Thursday of each week. One change to the schedule will be recycling. Starting in 2024, recycling will be picked up WEEKLY on Thursday as well.

HAZARDOUS WASTE

As in the past, household hazardous waste will be picked up upon scheduling this special service called At Your Door.

Items such as used oil, paints, household chemicals, etc. will be picked up from your porch or driveway. To schedule this service, please call Waste Management at 1-800-449-7587.
